COUPLED with a beautiful 40-page booklet containing one of Count Eric Stenbock’s rare and unpublished tales, this CD heralds a return to the post-Industrial salad days of Nightmare Culture. Stenbock [1860-1895], a noble Swede reprobate obsessed with the morbid themes of suicide, pain and death, here becomes the focus of this latest offering from David Tibet and Steven Stapleton. The pair take us on a dark and sinister pilgrimage through the eerie passages of a Catholic monastery. Filled with a tireless and melancholic litany of knarled and buckled snarls, we find ourselves in the midst of a daemonic choir as a swirling Kyrie Eleison envelops the soul with a few wisps of stereophonic incense. Instructions: create the right environment, add a little imagination and then bring to the boil.
